Shadow Banking: a Bibliometric and Content Analysis
Abstract
- This study reports on our systematic review of 2008–2021 literature on shadow banking.
- We conducted a bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer bibliometric tool on articles collected from the Scopus database
- We conducted content analysis on top articles from leading sources, and identified four major streams of shadow banking literature.

Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Ferdous Chowdhury
Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Ferdous Chowdhury is working as the Post-doctoral Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Finance and Digital Economy, KFUPM. He is also a faculty member (On leave) of the Department of Business Administration, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), Bangladesh. He holds the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) and MSc degree in Islamic Finance from INCEIF (AACSB accredited), The Global University of Islamic Finance, Malaysia. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS). He has published several articles in ISI journals including International Review of Financial Analysis, Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Emerging Markets Review, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Financial Innovation, Maritime policy and Management. Dr. Chowdhury is currently the Editorial Advisory Board member of the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management (IMEFM) Journal.
